‘Cocktail 2’, the new romantic comedy starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon i Rashmika Mandannawitnessed a major slowdown at the box office on its first Monday. The film, which got off to a good start at the box office in its opening weekend, saw a huge drop in numbers on Monday, earning around Rs 6.35 crore nett in India on the 4th.After a strong opening weekend, the romantic drama saw the expected midweek decline. On Monday, the film registered a 64.2% drop in numbers as it played in 9,785 shows.The film started its theatrical run with an impressive collection of Rs 13.50 crore nett on the opening day. The positive response from the audience helped the film grow over the weekend, earning approximately Rs 16.25 crore on Saturday and Rs 17.75 crore on Sunday. With Monday’s earnings added to its tally, ‘Cocktail 2’ has now amassed around Rs 53.85 crore in net collections in India. Meanwhile, the film’s Indian gross collections currently stand at Rs 64.56 crore.The film has also continued to maintain a steady grip on international markets. On Day 4, it added around Rs 1.50 crore overseas, taking its total overseas gross to Rs 20.75 crore. As a result, the worldwide gross collection of the film has increased to around Rs 85.31 crore.Directed by Homi Adajonia, ‘Cocktail 2’ serves as a sequel to the 2012 hit ‘Cocktail’ and features a new cast of Shahid, Kriti and Rashmika in lead roles, taking over from Deepika Padukone, Diana Penty and Saif Ali Khan.The film’s first box office performance has also helped it secure a place among Shahid Kapoor’s highest grossing films. With its current Indian net collection of Rs 53.85 crore, the film has already climbed to the seventh spot on the actor’s highest-grossing film list. It is now closing in on the lifetime collection of ‘Haider’ (2014), which earned approximately Rs 55.93 crore nett in India.If the film continues to maintain the momentum over the next few days, it could surpass the Indian nett total of Rs 84.85 crore achieved by Shahid Kapoor and Kriti Sanon’s previous collaboration ‘Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya’. At present,Padmaavat‘and’Kabir Singhthey remain the actor’s highest-grossing films.
