During an interaction with students at Honest Town Hall, Bhagyashri Borse shared that she studied in a Marathi school in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar before moving to Nigeria after her father got a job opportunity. Recalling the difficult transition, she said, “I didn’t know English at all then. I only knew Marathi, I only knew Hindi, and all these NRI kids who are Indian kids around me were like, how come he doesn’t know English? So obviously the bullying started. I was very innocent. It was just because I didn’t know the language.” Looking back on those days, she added, “I’ve been bullied. I think it’s about shutting out the noise and focusing on what our goal is. It will be hard; it will hurt, but that pain will push you to grow. Honestly, without it, my English wouldn’t be as good. If only I hadn’t been bullied for my English, right? So I choose to see it that way. I believe that every negative thing in our life helps to make the positive even stronger.”

Bhagyashri Borse also pointed out that bullying is something many children experience for different reasons, be it their looks, language, education or background.
