playback singer Vaikom Vijayalakshmi won the award for Best Female Playback Singer at the 72nd National Film Awards. He received recognition for his performance of ‘Angu Vaana Konilu’ from Tovino Thomas starrer ‘ARM’. Dhibu Ninan Thomas composed the music and Manu Manjith penned the lyrics. Soon after the announcement, Vijayalakshmi shared her happiness and spoke about her personal connection with the song.She told Maathhrubhumi, “The very song that inspired me has won me the National Award. I am immensely happy.”The singer has explained that the lyrics have always encouraged her to overcome life’s challenges and have helped her to keep moving forward with confidence. He added, “The lyrics ‘Uyarnnu Vaa… Uyarnnu Vaa… Break all barriers and rise… Conquer the world and rise…’ always fills me with strength to move forward. I too have overcome countless obstacles to reach where I am today.”
Vaikom Vijayalakshmi expresses gratitude
After winning the National Award, Vijayalakshmi offered prayers of gratitude and thanked Vaikathappan, Adi Parashakti and the presiding deity of her family for blessing her with success. The singer described the recognition as a memorable milestone in her musical journey. He also acknowledged composer Dhibu Ninan Thomas for creating the award-winning song.She said, “I love this song. But for me, nothing can beat ‘Kaatte Kaatte…’, the song from Celluloid that gave me my first break in cinema. I also hope to work with maestros Ilaiyaraaja and AR Rahman one day.”
Mammootty’s win makes the moment even more special
Apart from celebrating her own success, Vijayalakshmi expressed her happiness that Mammootty received the best actor award at the National Film Awards for ‘Bramayugam’.He said the hits of two Vaikom artistes made the occasion even more memorable and revealed that he tried to contact the veteran actor after the announcement.Sharing his excitement, he said, “I was delighted to hear that Mammookka (Mammootty) has also won the National Award for Best Actor. It made me think of the pride of two people from Vaikom getting national honours. I tried to call him but couldn’t get through. I want to share my happiness with him and congratulate him.”Apart from being an accomplished playback singer, she is also known for her ability to play the rare Gayathri Veena. Throughout his career, he has recorded more than 200 songs in Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, Bengali and Sanskrit. The National Award win also brought celebrations for the entire ARM team. Director Jithin Laal shared an emotional note on social media.
