Amitabh Bachchan He personally called Abhinandan Lodha House founder and chairman Abhinandan Lodha at around 3 am to inquire about buying land in Ayodhya and transferred Rs 15 crore the next day after knowing the price, the real estate businessman has revealed.Speaking at the Hindustan Times India Next Real Estate Summit 2026, Lodha recalled that he was in Australia in 2023 when he noticed a couple of missed calls and a message from the Bollywood superstar.“There were a couple of missed calls, followed by a message saying, ‘This is Amitabh Bachchan, please call back when it’s convenient.’ I literally got up and called him,” Lodha said.Recalling their conversation, Lodha said Bachchan told him, “Abhinandan ji, main UP se hoon aur mujhe Ayodhya ji mein land leni hai (I am a native of Uttar Pradesh and I want to buy land in the holy city of Ayodhya).”“I told him we will do it for you,” he added.Lodha said Bachchan first asked about the price of the land.“I replied, ‘How can I discuss prices with you?’ He said he wanted to buy 15,000 square feet and I told him it could be around Rs 15 crore, and the next day he sent me Rs 15 crore,” Lodha recalled.
Amitabh Bachchan has expanded his investments in Ayodhya
Bachchan has steadily expanded his property portfolio in Ayodhya over the past few years.In March 2026, he bought a plot of 2.67 acres worth Rs 35 crore from The House of Abhinandan Lodha. According to the company, it marked its third investment in Ayodhya and fourth planned development purchase with HoABL. The plot is located near the company’s 75-acre project, The Sarayu.Commenting on the investment at the time, Lodha had said, “Bachchan’s investment reflects a shared belief in land as an intergenerational asset that preserves long-term value.”“At HoABL, we see land not just as wealth, but as a legacy. In Ayodhya, that legacy takes on a deep meaning, a virasat where faith and heritage come together. Backed by sustained infrastructure development and public investment, Ayodhya is emerging as a compelling destination for long-term land ownership and lasting value creation.”Before that, in May 2025, Bachchan bought a 25,000 square feet plot adjacent to The Sarayu for nearly Rs 40 crore. In 2024, it had bought a 10,000 square meter plot in HoABL’s flagship mixed-use development, The Sarayu, for Rs 14.5 crore.
