Akshay Kumar explains why Ahaan-Aneet’s Saiyaara worked, says hit films don’t need events: ‘They were lucky the film took off’ | Hindi Movie News
Akshay Kumar believes that a film does not need a big promotional event or a larger-than-life spectacle to become a blockbuster. The actor cited the box office success of Saiyaara as an example, saying that the romantic drama won over audiences only through its music, romance and performances.Speaking to IANS, Akshay was asked about the growing belief that only event films and multi-starrers succeed in theatres, a view recently echoed by actor R Madhavan.
“If it’s in the movie’s destiny, it will work”
Responding to the debate, Akshay said that the success of a film ultimately depends on its fate.“If it’s in the film’s destiny, it works successfully one way or another,” he said. The actor then pointed to Saiyaara starring the newcomers Ahaan Panday i Aneet Paddaas proof that content can succeed without elaborate promotional events.
‘What event did Saiyaara have?’
Recalling the film, Akshay asked director Ahmed Khan, who was present during the interaction, to remind him of the title.“Recently, a movie came out with a new boy and girl. What was that movie?” he askedAfter Ahmed Khan replied, “Saiyaara,” Akshay continued, “Yes, Saiyaara. What event did the film have? I want to ask, what event did the film have? There was no event. It’s just that their songs worked and the romance in the film worked. That stuck. Boy and girl were lucky that the film did well.”
