Aamir Khan has landed in controversy just days after marrying his long-time partner Gauri Spratt, with a Muslim cleric who opposes their interfaith marriage and has declared it impermissible under his interpretation of Islamic law.The actor, who married Gauri in an intimate ceremony recorded on July 5, 2026, has not responded to comments. His team has also remained silent on the matter.
Clergyman opposes Aamir-Gauri marriage
According to ANI, Maulana Ibrahim Hussain, the Shahi Chief Mufti of Darul Ifta Muslim Staff, has issued a fatwa against Aamir Khan for his marriage to Gauri Spratt, saying it is against Sharia because she is not Muslim.In a video that has surfaced online, the cleric said, “Muslim mard ke liye, iman walon ke liye, gair Muslim se shaadi karna haraam hai.”He further stated that a Muslim man who marries a non-Muslim woman is committing a sin and said that those who do not accept this as a sinner would ultimately answer to Allah.
Comments on plural marriages
The Maulana also commented on the practice of marrying, divorcing and remarrying, saying that it is not justified if a person cannot fulfill the responsibilities of each marriage fairly.Referring to Aamir Khan, he said, “This question is about film actor Aamir Khan. He recently got married in a third marriage to a non-Muslim woman. In connection with this, we have also seen protests in the society…”.Neither Aamir Khan nor his representatives have commented on the cleric’s statements or the reported fatwa.

Aamir Khan married Gauri Spratt, a Bengaluru-based entrepreneur in the beauty and wellness industry, in a private ceremony registered under the Special Marriage Act on July 5. Gauri has a son from his previous marriage.Before marrying Gauri, Aamir was married to Reena Dutta, with whom he shares two sons, Junaid Khan and Ira Khan. The couple divorced in 2002 after 16 years of marriage.She later married filmmaker Kiran Rao in 2005.
