Fans have received their first official glimpse of Doctor Doom’s throne from the upcoming film ‘Avengers: Doomsday’. As shared on X, the main studio is building a memorial structure at an exhibition in Shanghai, China, which includes Robert Downey Jr. Doctor Doom’s throne marks the first time this iconic item has been confirmed for the film and revealed to the public. The design of the throne appears to feature a predominantly white color scheme with an ornate decorative structure located behind the royal seat. In particular, the steps lead up to the throne creating an imposing image that elevates Doom above all others in the space reinforcing his commanding presence and superiority complex.
Visual design and architectural elements
The throne screen features a mostly green backdrop that mirrors the background color seen in some of the “Avengers: Doomsday” logos and title cards in the trailers released so far. A wider view of the entire exhibition stand shows the official symbol of the film, a countdown timer for the release of the film and the logo in green.Additionally, a vertical banner on the right side of the screen features a silhouette of Doom’s mask, providing a new look at the character’s design that has not been previously revealed to the public. The comprehensive nature of the exposition sample suggests careful consideration of how the villain will be presented visually throughout the film.
Historical designs of comic book thrones
In comic stories, Doctor Doom has occupied various throne designs that reflect different aesthetics and contexts. One example features a wooden throne that resembles medieval craftsmanship, ornate and elegant in its construction, but relatively simple compared to the upcoming film’s design. Despite the differences in style, both thrones effectively communicate Doom’s commanding presence and superior status.Another throne design from the comics presents a much more disturbing picture. A particularly gruesome comic story takes place in Doom’s lair, where the villain sits on a chair-shaped throne made from another character’s transformed body. This grotesque design is among the most haunting images Marvel has offered throughout its publishing history, and showcases the range of creative work that went into visualizing Doom’s domain.Another throne design featured in the comics incorporated natural elements made from a tree. Although it lacks aesthetic symmetry and conventional appeal, this organic throne still effectively conveys an air of terror and danger associated with the character.
