Veteran actress Zeenat Aman has again defended his support for cohabiting relationships, maintaining that couples should live together before making a lifelong commitment through marriage. Although her views have drawn criticism from some of her contemporaries, including Mumtaz and Saira Banu, the actress says she continues to stand firm in her belief.In a recent conversation with Shubra Aiyappa, Zeenat explained why she believes convivial relationships are more relevant than ever in today’s world.

“Compatibility must be ensured”

Sharing her perspective, Zeenat said, “Today and even in the past, nothing lasts forever. You must ensure compatibility before making a legal commitment. This is my opinion. You have to know if you are mentally and emotionally compatible.”He went on to explain that compatibility extends beyond romance and includes important aspects of building a life together.“If you plan to have children, how will you raise them? What is your opinion on finances? If there is no compatibility, what’s the point? Wouldn’t you rather have five years of joy instead of fifteen miserable ones? That’s what I think,” he added.

“The honeymoon phase doesn’t last forever”

The actress also spoke about the reality of long-term relationships, saying that many people mistakenly believe that only romance can sustain a marriage.“People think romance will last forever. Nothing lasts forever. Relationships are always a work in progress. There has to be give and take, adjusting and compromising if things are going to work. Relationships evolve. If you think the honeymoon phase is going to last forever, it’s not,” she said.

Zeenat has shared the same advice with her children

Zeenat Aman has previously revealed that she gives the same advice to her children, encouraging them to live with their partners before deciding to marry. He has often said that his views have been shaped by his own personal experiences. The actress was briefly married to Sanjay Khan, a relationship that ended amid allegations of physical abuse following an infamous hotel room incident in which she suffered a serious eye injury. She later married an actor Mazhar Khanbut this marriage also faced several challenges. Over the years, Zeenat has spoken candidly about the alleged infidelity during her pregnancy and the eventual breakdown of their relationship.
