Jesse Eisenberg on rejecting ‘The Social Network 2’
Jesse Eisenberg played Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg in the 2010 film The Social Network, a performance that earned him wide acclaim and helped establish him as one of Hollywood’s leading actors. The original film, written by Aaron Sorkin and directed by David Fincher, it was a critical and commercial success. While Sorkin returns to direct the sequel, Eisenberg has opted not to reprise his iconic role.Speaking to Variety at the Minions & Monsters premiere, Eisenberg reflected on his conversations with Sorkin, saying, “It’s an honor to talk to Aaron in any way, because he’s so articulate and charming and so brilliant. We talked about making the film for several days, as he said. The way Aaron speaks, he speaks so beautifully, as he writes, that somehow if you’re not going to do something with him, it feels like you’re letting America down.“Explaining why he turned down the project, the actor added: “I told him I’m moving in different directions in my life and, you know, what he said sums it up very well: I don’t want to be associated with this character. But all my reasons for not wanting to do the movie have nothing to do with how wonderful it is, and will be, and I’m already convinced of that.”
