Patna schools are closed till June 30 for Classes 8 and below due to heat; DM offers a new plan
The Patna district administration has extended the suspension of education for students from primary to Class 8 in all government and government schools till June 30 due to the persistent and extreme heat.The new order has been issued by the District Magistrate (DM) Kundan Kumar protecting children from accidents caused by bad weather. It will be valid from June 29 to June 30, 2026.According to the order issued on June 28, district officials said that the ongoing heat wave and extreme heat continues to threaten the health and safety of school-going children. Keeping this in mind, it decided to expand the restrictions on physical education.This order has been issued under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023. It follows the earlier order issued on June 21, 2026, under Memo No. 8706 / Legal, through similar restrictions had already been imposed due to high temperatures.According to the latest directive, education for students from primary to Class 8 will be suspended in all government and government schools across Patna district till June 30, 2026.School authorities have been advised to reorganize their curriculum in line with the latest government guidelines. Although regular classroom teaching for these classes has been suspended for the time being, schools have been asked to ensure compliance with the revised schedule.
A decision taken to ensure the safety of children
District Magistrate Kundan Kumar said the decision was taken after the authorities found that the prevailing weather conditions continue to endanger the health and lives of the minors. As the heatwave continues across the region, suspending schooling for young children is considered a precautionary measure.The state government has ordered that all public schools and institutions should strictly follow the plan within the stipulated time. The decision comes as several parts of Bihar continue to experience extreme heat, prompting the government to take measures to reduce the risk of heatstroke among school children.
