It gives you a reason to be alive.”Earlier this year, Mel Brooks announced the donation of his thousands of documents and photographs to the National Comedy Center in Jamestown, New York. “I’ve always been proud to say that I make people laugh for a living,” Brooks said in a statement, per The Independent, adding: “So to know that my work will be in the National Comedy Archive and continue to make people laugh leaves me with a deep sense of pride.“

Mel Brooks married Florence Baum, but they divorced in 1962 after having three children. He later married Oscar-winning actress Anne Bancroft in 1964 and had a son. They remained together until he died of cancer at the age of 73 in 2005.
