Seven weeks after its release, the makers have officially announced the final Tamil Nadu box office collection of the film. According to the official announcement by Tamil Nadu distributor Sakthi Film Factory, ‘Karuppu’ collected Rs 191 crore in the state, making it one of the highest grossing Tamil films in the region. The film showed remarkable consistency throughout its run, collecting Rs 60 crore in its first three days, Rs 100 crore in its opening week, Rs 150 crore in just 13 days and Rs 175 crore on the 20th day. It has now added another Rs 16 crore to close its Tamil Nadu theatrical business with Rs 191 crore, falling short of the Rs 200 crore mark, which would have been a first for a Suriya film.

Strong word of mouth fueled the film’s long box office run

Released on May 15, ‘Karuppu’ has been well received by both the family audience and the fans, due to which it is getting more time in the theatres. Still, despite its release on the OTT platform on June 12, ‘Karuppu’ drew audiences in a few theatres. It was the result of good reviews, repeat viewings and high weekend box office earnings.

Suriya and RJ Balaji deliver one of the biggest hits of the year

Directed by RJ Balaji, the film ‘Karuppu’ stars Suriya and Trisha as the lead actors, while Sai Abhyankkar composed the background score.
