Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) will remove subject selection from State Services Main Exam from 2027

Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) has announced major changes in the State Services Main Examination pattern. Starting from the 2027 exam, candidates will no longer be able to choose a subject, because the board has decided to remove it from the exam.In a press release issued on June 25, the board said that candidates for the Maharashtra Civil Services (Gazetted Group A and Group B) Main Examination will have to write two papers on the subject of their choice. However, this requirement will end from the 2027 exam.Explaining the decision, the MPSC said that civil service commissions in states like Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar have already withdrawn their courses from the State Services Main Examination. “Instead they will adopt a more analytical and comparative approach,” the agency said.Following a comprehensive review, the board said it has decided to launch a similar scheme in Maharashtra. Under the revised system, candidates will have to appear on seven compulsory papers. These include Marathi and English papers, one Marathi or English paper, and four General Studies papers. The language papers will be qualifying in nature, with candidates having to score at least 25 percent. The written test will have 1,250 marks, while the interview will continue to have 275 marks, taking the total to 1,525.The board also said that the revised exam pattern will be published separately on its official website. The MPSC has clarified that the change is applicable to the State Services Main Examination. The topic you have chosen will be taken up in the Maharashtra Forest Service Main Examination. It also said that there will be no changes in the existing examinations of Maharashtra Civil Engineering and Electrical Engineering Services, Maharashtra Agriculture Services, Food and Drug Administrative Services, Maharashtra Veterinary Services, and Inspector of Legal Metrology Main Examinations.
