POSCO’s case against Tamil Nadu’s Education Minister over a video showing him grabbing the legs of female athletes
POSCO’s case was registered after a video showing Tamil Nadu Higher Education Minister P Viswanathan holding the outstretched legs of girl athletes while addressing them at a function in Melur, Madurai, sparked outrage on social media.The authenticity of a viral video has not been independently verified. According to reports, the runners were resting after participating in a marathon organized as part of the birthday celebrations of Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. The event was held at Melur government school where prizes were awarded to the participants.The video shows Viswanathan greeting the athletes after the prize distribution ceremony. In these photos, he can be seen grabbing the outstretched legs of other athletes and snapping their fingers while talking to them. Referring to the controversy, DMK advocate Saranya Natarajan said the minister’s actions were inappropriate and asked him to resign.“Viswanathan’s behavior with children was inappropriate, we registered a POCSO case; he should stop,” Natarajan said.
