NEET UG 2026 Counselling: The Medical Control Committee (MCC) has brought major changes in the NEET UG online counseling and medical admission for graduates from the current academic session. The new measures are aimed at reducing the reception process, reducing paperwork and creating transparent advice for those who want to go to the hospital. These changes were communicated by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare to the counseling authorities before the start of NEET UG 2026 counseling. The Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) also informed the candidates that MCC will start counseling soon and highlighted the major changes introduced in the system.
No physical reports are required for promotion candidates
Under the revised counseling process, candidates who have been allotted a seat and choose the “Promotion” or “Promotion Candidate” option in the following categories will no longer need to report to the college they have been assigned to meet the criteria.Their assigned seat will remain protected in the counseling process while participating in other programs, as per the existing MCC counseling rules. The change is expected to reduce unnecessary travel and paperwork for candidates waiting for good seats.
Seating arrangements have been posted online
MCC has launched an online resignation process for candidates who want to resign from their seats, wherever they can resign as per the guidelines of the council.Candidates will be able to submit resignation requests through the MCC counseling service within the specified time frame. They will not be required to go to the medical college to submit the resignation letter. The space will be available according to the rules in force and the times announced for each counseling session.
NRI quota applicants can submit documents online
Aspirants seeking NRI reservation benefits in their considered universities can submit their required documents directly through the MCC counseling service. In the past, the process of submitting documents for NRI status also involved coordination. A new online system has been launched to make the verification process more accessible and streamlined for applicants.
MCC provides scholarships to states and medical colleges
In order to ensure the implementation of the revised counseling process, MCC has started training and education for those involved in medical treatment.Training was held for the officials of the State Directorate of Medical Education in May and June 2026. A special study of medical institutions was organized on July 27, 2026, with additional sessions organized in public and private medical colleges.
More information on seats and funding for elections
The MCC has also highlighted the importance of providing clear information to prospective candidates on the available seats and fee structure.MCC conducts counseling for 15% seats of All India Quota (AIQ) and 100% seats in deemed universities under NEET UG. Since most of the medical seats are managed by the states and Union Territories, the authorities have been asked to ensure that the details regarding the seats and fees are easily available to the aspirants.
MCC’s basic advice changes gradually
Candidates who are preparing for the NEET UG 2026 counseling should follow the MCC notification and keep the necessary documents before registration and before the election filling sessions start.
