Madhuri Dixit and choreographer Saroj Khan they worked together on songs like ‘Ek Do Teen’, ‘Dhak Dhak Karne Laga’, ‘Tamma Tamma Loge’ and ‘Dola Re Dola’, which became iconic dance numbers. However, the veteran choreographer died after suffering a cardiac arrest on July 3, 2020, at the age of 71. While the actress mourned the disappearance of her dance mentor, two days later on the occasion of Guru Purnimahe wrote a long note expressing his grief.

Madhuri Dixit took to her Instagram account to share a photo with Saroj Khan and added a long caption. Mourning the death of the ace veteran choreographer, the actress wrote, “Still can’t believe master ji is gone. Losing a friend, philosopher and guide like her is devastating. It was hard for me to express my pain in words. I spoke to her daughter when she was in the hospital and she told me that Saroj ji would be fine. Two days later, he was gone.The Guru-shishya bond we shared, the security that my mother would be on the sets, I will miss it all. Today, on the occasion of Guru Purnima, I pay my homage to him.No one can make women look as beautiful, desirable and sultry on screen as she can. She made everything look like poetry in motion. Delighted by her, he had told her, “Saroji ji, agar aap shakkar hoti na, I would add you to my cup of tea and drink it.” She would laugh heartily at that. I will miss that playful laugh.”Madhuri further expressed, “The first time I met her was while shooting for Karma’s Maine Rab Se. Saroj ji asked me so many questions, one of which was ‘Where did you learn to dance?’ Unfortunately, our sequence was removed from the song. I will miss your many questions.Saroj Khan was a game changer in the industry. She was the rebel in the profession dominated by men. There were rough edges to her personality and I think that’s because life had been pretty bumpy for her. I will miss this determined and headstrong woman.”

In the same caption, Madhuri Dixit wrote, “Dancing in front of the camera and dancing on stage are two different things. Saroj ji taught me how to romance the camera when we worked on ‘Ek Do Teen’.”The actress stated that the song became so popular that an award show had to create the Best Choreography category “to honor Saroj ji”. He added: “I will miss his determination to push the envelope all the time.”

The long caption further read: “Her Nazakat, the aadayein, the elegance of every move, was delighted. She knew we would do many songs together. So we decided not to repeat any of the moves. She agreed to create hook steps that people will identify with each song. We created so many moves without knowing what they were called. Who knew Tamma Tamma’s step was Dab? I will miss inventing hook steps with her.“The actress concluded, “She was also close to my family and this loss is deeply personal. There is no one like her and there will never be another like her.
