The release of ‘Jana Nayagan’, the latest film starring Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay, turned into a grand celebration across Tamil Nadu on Thursday. As thousands of fans gathered outside theaters for the first-day show, two visitors from Japan became the center of attention with their unique tribute to the actor. The women arrived in front of the Rohini Cinema in Chennai dressed in traditional kimonos. They also brought Japanese fans and proudly displayed custom posters dedicated to Vijay. The posters carried by the duo read, “Biggest Thalapathy Japan fans of all time.” Clips of fans celebrating outside the theater soon spread on social media.
Inauguration Day celebrations resemble a festival
The release of ‘Jana Nayagan’ witnessed massive celebrations in various theatres. Fans organized drum performances, decorative displays, banners and cutouts to welcome Vijay’s final film. For many fans, the film is more than a theatrical release. It marks the conclusion of Vijay’s acting career before he fully devotes himself to public service following his entry into politics and his tenure as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
Huge expectations surround Vijay’s farewell film
Trade experts had predicted a strong opening for ‘Jana Nayagan’, pointing to Vijay’s loyal fan base and the historic significance of his latest appearance on the big screen. Directed by H. Vinoth, ‘Jana Nayagan’ features Pooja Hegde opposite Vijay, while Bobby Deol plays the lead antagonist. The ensemble cast also includes Prakash Raj, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, Narain and several other prominent actors in important roles. The music of the film has been composed by Anirudh Ravichander. Its songs and background score had already gained popularity before the theatrical release, increasing the anticipation around the project.

Meanwhile, mixed reviews are being added for the film. One tweet read, “Watched #BhagavanthKesari (2023) right after watching #LEO (2023). Enjoyed Bhagavanth Kesari in parts though not completely. Having said that, #JanaNayagan which is a partial remake of Bhagavanth Kesari is an above average political action thriller. Title letter sequence is very good.
