I am not interested in any other awards like the Padma awards.” The late veteran singer also felt that South Indian artists deserved greater recognition for their work and contribution.For the uninitiated, S Janaki spent nearly five decades in the music industry and sang about 40,000 songs in 17 languages. She said, “After singing about 40,000 songs in 17 languages and getting four national awards and several state awards, I felt that what I have been given now, after being in the field for 55 years, is little. I think I deserve more, don’t you?”
