School education in Assam is facing two challenges simultaneously. Although thousands of schools are working with a shortage of teachers and a decrease in the number of students, about 25,000 educational institutions have approached the state government to demand improvement.The figures were placed before the Assam Legislative Assembly, where the government shared information on public school education.
Lack of teachers, very low enrollment
Data presented in the House showed that 60,032 teaching posts are vacant in all schools in the state. The Department of Education also informed the Assembly that 7,948 schools are operating without student-teacher ratios, raising concerns about classroom teaching and compliance.The data also showed that 32,321 schools have less than 30 students, which shows the declining number in several districts of Assam.The protesters complained about the high workload and the low number of students, saying that all these are still very difficult for the education to progress in the public schools, IANS reports.
About 25,000 organizations want to be part of it
Education Minister Ranoj Pegu told the Assembly that about 25,000 educational institutions have applied to set up districts once they are opened online.According to information obtained by the House, these schools include 6,163 primary schools, 10,101 high schools, 5,733 secondary schools and 1,222 secondary schools.Pegu said the requests are being examined under the Assam Education (Provincialization of Services of Teachers and Reorganization of Educational Institutions) Act and other laws. He has also said that the work of recruiting teachers and principals in government schools is being done in accordance with the instructions of the courts and the government’s recruitment policy.The government also said that there are measures being taken to recruit people, organize the right things and promote education in schools.
