20th and 25th anniversary celebration of Vishal Bhardwaj‘s ‘Omkara’ and Farhan Akhtar‘Dil Chahta Hai’ Saif Ali Khan looked back on his career spanning over three decades and how everything has been for him lately. While chatting with The Hollywood Reporter India, the actor shared how life-changing a film ‘Dil Chahta Hai’ was for him.He shared with Farhan Akhtar that the film explored many new concepts in cinema, which also included voice acting. Experiencing it for the first time was a life-changing moment. The ‘Hawiwaan’ actor added that, “We were so used to dubbing. He [Akhtar] made me listen like Nakul Kamte [sound designer] it was dealing with sound and how you travel with those headphones. It was an amazing experience.”Later, he also revealed another part of the film that he found very interesting, which was when, during filming, there was a silence in the studio. “There was so much silence the first time because of this incredible closure,” he says. “Some of our films have such a crowded environment that silence becomes rare. But it was there in this film.” The actor also shared that 25 years ago, there was naivety in him film industry that he has missed a lot. “There was a new attitude towards everything. In the cinema and in life”, said the actor.Regarding ‘Omkara’, Khan shared, “There was a very creative atmosphere on the sets of Omkara. Vishal [Bhardwaj] It was great and getting the chance to speak a new language in a new way and dress up as someone so different was really liberating and exciting.” Inspired by Shakespeare’s Othello, the film starred Saif Ali Khan as the main antagonist, Ishwar “Langda” Tyagi.The star said that ‘Omkar’ gave him an opportunity to explore new sides of him, which was a completely new and daunting experience which he absolutely loved at the time. Recalling his time on set, he added, “I created things that we would never have in the other fun romance-type movies we were making.”Specifically there is a monologue watching that his character delivers in the film. While talking about the same, she revealed that director Vishal, at that time, had asked her if she would be able to do the scene without clothes. Recalling the memory, he laughed and added, “I remember Vishal ji asking, ‘Would you mind doing it naked?'” prompting him to then reply, “‘Listen, if you direct me naked, I’ll do it!'”
Saif Ali Khan on one of the main reasons why actors survive in the industry
During his interview, the actor also revealed that one of your audience is one of the most important aspects to survive in the industry. He shared that the people you are making films for need to like you in order to survive in the film industry. The actor further said, “You only survive if the audience likes you. That’s it. I don’t know about great performances and stuff, there has to be a good vibe that gives them that they don’t mind seeing you again, even after a bad movie. And that’s all you really need.” He also shared in another segment of the interview that “people are more excited or interested to see something that’s made strongly and is a little bit different and is about something.”While talking about cinema and the kind of projects he wants to do now, he stated that he sees a moment in cinema before Ranveer Singh’s ‘Dhurandhar’, and then added, “So it depends on us whether we catch up or not and wake up or not.”He further added that one of the main aspects he wants to work on more is the music, further praising ‘Dhurandhar’ for its more inventive choices. He also added: “It seems like an obvious idea to make amazing music instead of creating a new album for every film, to be inspired by all kinds of things from around the world, not to be too afraid of English as alienating too.”Saif Ali Khan will next be seen in his new film, ‘Haiwaan’, which is set to release on September 11.
