Schools and colleges in Hosanagar and Sagar taluks of Karnataka’s Shivamogga district will remain closed on Wednesday, July 8, as heavy rains continue to affect several parts of the region. The district administration declared the holiday as a precautionary measure for the safety of the students amid incessant rains and strong winds.The holiday has been declared in schools, pre-university colleges, and anganwadis of the affected areas, where the schools have to make up for the missed days through holiday classes.Holiday due to continuous heavy rain in the stateIt should be noted that schools and colleges in the affected area were already closed due to the heavy rains in the state but for now they have closed until further notice. According to reports, incessant rains and poor weather conditions have forced the authorities concerned to close schools in the area.Hosanagar Tahsildar Bharat Raj issued an order declaring a holiday for schools, anganwadi centers and PU colleges on July 8. Similar precautionary measures have been put in place in Sagar taluk as the weather continues.Government officials have advised people living in the area to be careful and avoid traveling inappropriately in areas that are facing problems caused by the rain.Educational institutions asked to pay for lost classesIn order to reduce the impact of the closure of courses, educational institutions have been advised to hold classes on designated holidays to compensate for the lost study days. The aim is to ensure that the given syllabus is completed within the academic calendar without disrupting the students’ studies.Officials said that this has become necessary because repeated interruptions in rains can affect the schedule of education during the rainy season.It’s the second school closure since the southwest monsoon hitThis is the second closure of schools in Shivamogga district following the Red Alert and heavy rains since the southwest monsoon hit the district.The region has been experiencing the worst of the monsoon season, which has forced officials to remain vigilant and monitor the weather. Future decisions regarding school closures or reopenings will be determined by weather conditions over the next few days.However, in the neighboring state of Odisha, there was heavy rain which led to the closure of schools in some parts of the state on July 7. But as of July 8, there was no new development regarding the closure of schools.It is wise to know some announcements about this matter.
