India and Indonesia on Tuesday signed several agreements aimed at expanding cooperation in technology, education, infrastructure and space research, with one of the main announcements being the establishment of a campus of the Indian Institute of Management Bangalore (IIM Bangalore) in Indonesia.The agreements were announced after talks between the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto during the Prime Minister’s visit to Jakarta. Both sides said the partnership will focus on emerging technologies as they create more opportunities for young people in the two countries.
Focus on AI, digital infrastructure and startups
Speaking at a press conference with President Prabowo, Prime Minister Modi said the two countries want to strengthen their strength by expanding cooperation in technology.“We will also share best practices related to sustainable agriculture and agrotechnology. The 21st century is driven by technology. Both India and Indonesia are countries with youth power, and our youth have a natural talent for technology,” said the Prime Minister. WHO reports.He also said that the two countries signed an agreement to promote cooperation in artificial intelligence, telecommunications and digital equipment.“Today, we have signed an important agreement to strengthen the technological cooperation between our youth in areas such as AI, telecommunications, and digital infrastructure. We have also agreed to expand the basic cooperation between our two countries,” PM Modi he said.
IIM Bangalore campus for the ASEAN region
One of the announcements made during the visit was the proposal to set up a campus of IIM Bangalore in Indonesia.The Prime Minister said the school not only benefits Indonesian students but also supports students from across the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).“We will establish a campus of India’s leading institute, IIM Bangalore, in Indonesia; this will greatly benefit the youth of the entire ASEAN region,” he said.The move comes as India continues to expand the international reach of its higher education institutions and strengthen academic ties with Southeast Asian countries.
The harmony of space is growing
India and Indonesia also agreed to expand cooperation in the space sector.Highlighting the existing cooperation between the two countries, Prime Minister Modi said recent agreements include joint research, technology sharing and capacity building.“We have shared a reliable, decades-long partnership in the space sector as well. Building on this, important decisions regarding joint research, technology sharing, and strengthening of capabilities in the space sector have been taken today,” he said. WHO reports.
A welcome event in Jakarta
Earlier, Prime Minister Modi was given a ceremonial welcome in Jakarta as he began his three-nation visit to Indonesia.Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto welcomed the Prime Minister with a Guard of Honour, a horse-drawn escort and traditional celebrations. The two leaders greeted and embraced each other before discussing the delegation.
Go to another part of the Indo-Pacific region
Before departing for the visit, Prime Minister Modi said the visit to Indonesia, followed by visits to Australia and New Zealand, will strengthen India’s ties with the Indo-Pacific region.“My visit to Indonesia and Australia in the eastern and southern Indian Ocean, respectively, followed by New Zealand, will further strengthen India’s Act East Policy, MAHASAGAR Vision, and our vision for a free and open Indo-Pacific,” he said. WHO.Apart from official meetings, the Prime Minister is also planning to interact with members of the Indian diaspora during his visit.He will also join President Prabowo at the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Prambanan Temple Complex in Yogyakarta, a site that Prime Minister Modi has previously described as a symbol of India-Indonesia’s development ties.The visit to Indonesia is the first leg of the Prime Minister’s three-nation tour. He will go to Australia and New Zealand after his engagements in the country.
