SS Rajamouli’s ‘Varanasi’ is back in the headlines, this time after a picture of starrer Mahesh Babu as character Lord Ram started doing rounds online.In the photo that appeared on the fan handles, the actor is seen dressed in saffron robes with a bow on his shoulder. The scene in question appears to be in the middle of a rural setting. While it is not clear if the image is an AI rendering from the film’s shoot, it has got fans excited about his turn as Lord Rama in the upcoming film.So far, the makers have only shown Mahesh Babu’s look from the film in a teaser trailer. This picture, believed to be a fan-made post, gives a clear glimpse of how the actor might look in his Lord Rama avatar.Director Rajamouli earlier revealed that seeing Mahesh Babu in his Lord Rama avatar gave him “literal goosebumps”. He also claimed that Mahesh has “the charm of Krishna and the calmness of Rama”.Another picture doing the rounds online, shows a poster of Mahesh Babu holding a trishul in his hands. Although the image was shared last year, it is now going viral after being featured in promotional material during Rajamoulis’ fan interactions.The picture comes amid renewed interest in ‘Varanasi’ after director SS Rajamouli took it upon himself to promote the film in France. The filmmaker has earlier confirmed that the Mahesh Babu-starrer is a standalone film and revealed that the audience can expect an estimated 20-30 minutes. Ramayanawhich was shot in IMAX format.‘Varanasi’, starring Mahesh Babu alongside Priyanka Chopra and Prithviraj Sukumaran, is currently in production. Rajamouli recently revealed that the film has about 80 days of shooting left before it wraps up and begins post-production work.The film is slated to release in April 2027.
