New Delhi: The Goa Institute of Management (GIM) recently concluded a five-day Academic Leadership Program (ALP) for the college principals of Delhi University, bringing together academic leaders to discuss the challenges ahead and opportunities in higher education.Held from June 29 to July 3, the program drew participation from officials representing more than 40 colleges of Delhi University, including Shri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC), Hindu College, Lady Shri Ram College for Women, Hans Raj College, Ramjas College, Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies, Sri Venkateswara College and Lady Irwin College. The discussion focused on strengthening school leadership and preparing higher education institutions to meet the demands of academic and operational management.Strengthen leadership and organizational planningThe program is designed to lead discussions on school planning, leadership and strategies for building future-ready high schools. Sessions were conducted by experts from GIM, University of Delhi and National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA).Key topics discussed in the program included the use of artificial intelligence in education, the implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, digital transformation, organizational leadership, change management, inclusive leadership, financial management, ethics and student-centered education.

Addressing the participants, GIM Director Prof Ajit Parulekar said institutions need to continuously evolve to meet the changing needs of students and maintain their education. He also emphasized that higher education should focus on developing responsible citizens along with professional skills.Adults discuss common problemsOne of the most important aspects of the program was the dialogue between the adults who participated in the study of higher education. These include reducing the number of students and the number of people who participate in the classroom, the growth of artificial intelligence in teaching and administration, improving the careers of graduates, and obtaining funding for organizations.The participants also shared their experiences and practical ways to overcome these challenges, the program serving as a platform to share best practices of organizations.A collaborative learning platformAccording to GIM, the purpose of the Education Leadership Course is to help strengthen the skills among the leaders of higher education and to promote mutual learning in the context of national education.This initiative comes at a time when higher education institutions across the country are adapting to policy changes, technological advances and changing expectations regarding quality, innovation and global competitiveness.
