The expected meeting of global stars Jr. NTR and magician of words Trivikram Srinivas has hit a whirlwind of online controversy shortly after its blockbuster announcement. While fans were excited to see the duo teaming up again after Aravinda Sametha Veera Raghava, a cryptic teaser poster featuring a weapon similar to Lord Murugan’s Vel (spear) sparked speculations. The excitement quickly turned into a heated cultural debate across social media after producer S. Naga Vamsi shared the poster with a caption stating that the star was “Born in the North… Fit in the Centre… Adored in the South”. This slogan drew intense criticism from Tamil devotees and netizens, who are strongly opposed to the northern attribution of the deeply revered ancient deity as Tamil Kadavul (the God of the Tamils).
The producer’s social media post sparks an online debate
Soon after the announcement, a social media post by producer S. Naga Vamsi sparked a wide debate. Sharing the film’s poster on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote: “Born in the North… Fit in the Centre… Adored in the South… Now becoming a universal epic.” As many viewers had already linked the poster with Lord Murugan, the phrase “Born in the North” quickly became the focus of discussion. This raised questions among netizens, who thought this might alter the story of the god. This message went viral on social media and attracted both criticism and support from various sections of the internet.
Social media is divided by interpretation
Soon, the comments section was filled with mixed opinions. Many devotees of Lord Murugan and several Tamil users expressed their opposition, stating that Murugan has been associated with Tamil heritage in Tamil literary works and cultural traditions for a long time. Some users also questioned why Tamil elements were not seen in the poster of the ad if the film was based on the deity. Others felt that filmmakers should not create confusion about historical or religious beliefs to promote the film. At the same time, another section of users supported the makers, stating that Murugan is worshiped all over India with names like Kartikeya and Subrahmanya and hence a wider interpretation is possible.
There is no official confirmation about the story of the film yet
There has been a lot of talk around but the makers have not officially confirmed that the film is based on Lord Murugan or any particular mythological story. This speculation is based only on the teaser poster and a social media post from a producer. Consequently, several fans have urged others to wait for an official announcement before concluding on the subject of the film. Still, the debate has made the Jr NTR-Trivikram project one of the most talked about films on social media, and each new update is expected to garner a lot of attention.
