The director revealed that Ranbir would report to the set as early as 3 am to undergo hours of make-up before the day’s shoot.Hirani explained that the actor’s transformation into Sanjay Dutt it required four to five hours of make-up every day. As a result, Ranbir would reach Film City well before dawn for a shoot scheduled at 7am.Hirani was asked if actors insisting on shorter work shifts affect the costs of producing and making films, especially compared to senior actors who often worked very long hours.Responding to the question, he said in an interview to IANS, “I don’t think any actor of today’s generation will say that we will work only for these many hours. They understand the importance of, at least the ones I’ve worked with, they understand the importance. Toh karna hai toh khatam karna hai. They will finish it.”The filmmaker then recalled that Ranbir never complained despite the demanding schedule. “I remember Ranbir, he used to have a beard in the film, so he used to take 4-5 hours to do his make-up. So if we had a 7am shift, he’d come at 3am and sit alone in the movie city at night. I’d arrive at 6am, and there was a van outside, a lamp hanging outside, and inside, his make-up, and then we were in for 12 hours leave He never complained about it. Never, to anyone.
