After years of uncertainty, hopes have risen again for the release of ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’. The much delayed spy thriller directed by and starring Gautham Vasudev Menon Vikram has received another positive development in the courts. The film has remained unreleased despite being completed several years ago, mainly due to financial and legal hurdles. With the latest court order, fans are once again hopeful that one of the most awaited projects in Tamil cinema will finally hit the theatres.
Court extends deadline to release ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’.
In the last hearing, the Madras High Court extended the deadline for the release of ‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ to July 31. The court had earlier allowed the producers to release the film before June 15, while directing them to deposit the film’s earnings in a separate bank account so that dues could be cleared to creditors. As reported by Cinema Express, the court had also observed that the producers could seek additional time if the film was not released within the original deadline. Since the launch could not take place as planned, Gautham Menon‘s team again approached the court, after which Justice Senthilkumar Ramamoorthy granted an extension till the end of July.
The financial dispute delayed the film for years
The legal battle dates back to financial issues surrounding another Gautham Menon film, ‘Enai Noki Paayum Thota’. Producer Madan, who had a 50 percent stake in “Dhruva Natchathiram”, had transferred his share to the financiers as part of a financial deal. The financiers later moved court to prevent the release of the film until their dues were repaid, leading to an interim stay. These disputes repeatedly pushed back the release, leaving the ambitious action thriller stalled despite being ready for audiences.
Fans are hoping that the Vikram-Gautham Menon film will finally see the light of day
‘Dhruva Natchathiram’ features an ensemble cast including Ritu Varma, Parthiban Radhakrishnan, Radhika Sarathkumar and Simran, with music composed by Harris Jayaraj. Nearly nine years after production began, the latest court order has renewed optimism among fans. If all the pending formalities are completed within the new deadline, the much-awaited Vikram starrer could finally hit the big screen, ending one of the longest release delays in Tamil cinema.
