GCC councilor moves Madras High Court against Tamil Nadu CM Vijay's birthday celebrations in schools

The Councilor of Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC) on Tuesday moved Madras High Court against the use of educational institutions to glorify the politics of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay. The petition also asks for the inclusion of school students in the celebrations planned for the Chief Minister’s birthday on June 22.The request comes after a birthday celebration held at Sowthapuram Government Higher Secondary School in Namakkal district drew criticism for the behavior of the students.According to an earlier TOI report, “Thalapathi” Surya, deputy secretary of Sowthapuram panchayat, announced that gold coins will be given to Class 10 and Class 12 passers as part of Vijay’s birthday celebrations. However, the event is said to have confused the students. A teacher, who asked not to be named, said students had to wait for more than an hour in the scorching sun, many sitting on the floor because there was no space. The controversy erupted days after school education minister Rajmohan warned party officials not to disturb students during school hours or resort to repeated shootings in schools.
