Kunal Kemmu on raising daughter Inaaya in two religions: ‘We never thought about what people would think’ |
actor Kunal Kemmu has spoken openly about the deeply personal journey of raising his daughter Inaaya Naumi Kemmu alongside his wife Soha Ali Khana journey shaped by instinct, mutual respect and a beautiful blend of two religions. In a candid conversation, Kunal revealed how the couple has always followed their own parental compass, regardless of public opinion or society’s expectations.
Kunal Kemmu shares that he is breeding by instinct, not by public opinion
Kunal Kemmu, who has been married to Soha Ali Khan since January 2015, said the couple has never let outside voices influence the way they raise Inaaya, who turns nine this year. Kunal told IANS, “We’ve been very instinctive. Luckily, now I’ve got a friend, a partner and a wife who understands that I’m an instinctive person and so is she. When it comes to parenting, we have some experience now. She (Inaaya) will be nine years old this year. But we did everything instinctively that felt right.”
Kunal Kemmu on not seeking validation from society
The actor acknowledged that his parenting choices haven’t always been met with universal approval and that he’s perfectly fine with that. He said: “It’s been a journey that people have liked. But we’ve never thought about what people would think and who would like it or not. Some people were offended by this journey, some people didn’t like certain things. But that’s okay, because I think how you live your life is in your hands.“Kunal also emphasized that neither he nor Soha are trying to project an image of ideal parenting for public approval. He added: “We’ve never done anything thinking, ‘Let’s do it because it’ll look better’ or because people will socially think we’re doing the right thing or the wrong thing. As a parent, you do what you think is right. I do what I think is right.”
Kunal Kemmu talks about disagreements
Like any couple, Kunal and Soha do have their parenting differences, though she explains them with trademark humor. He joked: “Sometimes there are things I say you don’t need to do, but as a parent, it’s within your rights to do that. Likewise, there are a lot of things where he tells me that the habits I’m breaking don’t look good. He’ll tell me not to give him ice cream right now, but I feed him when I think the time is right.“
Kunal Kemmu opens up about celebrating two religions under one roof
Soha Ali Khan comes from a Muslim background, while Kunal comes from a Hindu family. Instead of letting this be a point of complexity, the couple has turned it into one of Inaaya’s best gifts. From Eid and Christmas to Diwali and Mahashivratri, the family celebrates every festival with equal warmth and enthusiasm, ensuring that their daughter grows up embracing the richness of both traditions.
