SS Rajamouli has given an exciting production update of his much awaited action adventure ‘Varanasi’ starring Priyanka Chopra i Mahesh Babu at the head The filmmaker confirmed that the film has passed a major milestone, with its elaborate IMAX action sequences now successfully completed. The announcement comes as anticipation continues to build around the ambitious project, which is slated to hit theaters worldwide on April 7, 2027.Speaking to Variety India about the film’s progress, Rajamouli assured fans that production is going strong and has now entered the final stretch.
IMAX action blocks are complete
The ace director revealed that the biggest and most technically demanding parts of the film are already behind the team. Having wrapped up the large-scale action episodes, the focus has now shifted to filming the scenes that connect the narrative.“We have completed a major part of the shooting, all the important show action sequences are done.” He also shared, “Now we’re doing the smaller, more interconnected scenes, so hopefully by September, maybe a little bit into October, we should be done shooting.”According to Rajamouli, only the dramatic parts of the Varanasi schedule remain to be shot before the principal photography is completed.Rajamouli stressed that the film is progressing exactly on schedule, dismissing any concerns about delays. Their latest update indicates that the team is close to completing the shoot on schedule before moving into the post-production phase.The director’s statement has also reassured fans who are eagerly awaiting the ambitious project, with its theatrical release slated for April 7, 2027.
