Prince Harry and Meghan Markle ‘have yet to respond’ to King Charles III’s offer to stay ahead of UK visit |
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have “yet to respond” to an offer from King Charles III about accommodation for their upcoming visit to the UK. The couple are reportedly expected to return to Britain in July for the first time in four years, bringing their children Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet for the ‘One Year To Go’ ceremony marking the countdown to the 2027 Invictus Games in Birmingham.According to GB News, the return journey has long been complicated by significant logistical and security concerns. Prince Harry lost his automatic right to 24-hour armed police protection in 2020 after he and Meghan stepped back from formal royal duties. He later challenged this decision, arguing that the British Home Office acted illegally, but ultimately failed.
The security problem that almost prevents the visit
The security issue became so important that Harry expressed serious reservations about returning to Britain with his family. Speaking to the BBC after his court loss, the Duke of Sussex bluntly stated: “I can’t see a world in which I would bring my wife and children to the UK at this point.”
Multiple royal residences have been reported to be on offer
King Charles III has extended an offer of royal accommodation to Harry and Meghan. Several prominent royal properties have been considered as potential sites for his visit. Buckingham Palace, St James’s Palace, Windsor Castle and Frogmore Cottage, the couple’s former residence before their move to California in 2020, have been discussed as possibilities. However, according to the Daily Mail, Harry and Meghan have yet to formally respond to this offer.
Althorp House emerges as a likely destination
The couple have reportedly been recommended to stay at Althorp House, the ancestral estate of the Spencer family and the childhood home of Diana, Princess of Wales. The property has deep personal meaning for Harry as it serves as the resting place of his late mother. Geographically, the estate’s location, about an hour’s drive from Birmingham, makes it a logical choice given Harry’s main reason for visiting Britain.
Decisions are expected soon
While final decisions on both hosting and security arrangements are still pending, sources say clarity on these matters is expected in the coming weeks. The couple’s commitment to attend the Invictus Games countdown event suggests their visit will continue, while these logistical questions are sorted out.
King Charles III anticipating the reunion
Despite the complexities surrounding the visit, King Charles III is looking forward to being reunited with his youngest son and grandchildren. The king’s apparent openness to facilitating such a visit contrasts sharply with the position taken by other members of the royal family.
