Musician and singer Vishal Dadlani has publicly supported the Gen-Z student protesters who have faced backlash over the language used in their speeches and on social media. In response, Dadlani argued that the real focus should be on how the protesters were treated, including being lathi-charged, teargassed and beaten, rather than their choice of words.

In an Instagram post on Monday, Vishal posted a well-written message to defend the students. He wrote, “Bad language!? You beat up kids on the street. You threw stones at them and blamed them! You shot them. You tear gassed them. They were shot in the face. Your bhaade-ke-goons threaten and beat them even now! You have won the gaalis, my ‘fraand’.”In the caption, Vishal also called out what he called coordinated efforts to turn public sentiment against the youth protesters. She wrote: “Oh and… Doing paid story campaigns and influencer campaigns just makes you look more pathetic,” followed by a laughing emoji.

Dadlani’s response came soon after BJP MP and actor Kangana faced backlash for criticizing the student protesters for their conduct and videos circulating online. In her Instagram stories, she described the clips as “vomit-inducing”, writing: “Never in my life have I seen so much ugliness in one place. These videos of Gen Z protests are vomit-inducing. The way they talk and the kind of language they use... never in my life have I seen everything in each and every frame so discordant and so rude at the same time.”
He further added, “India is a place of beautifully diverse people, surrounded by elegance and rooted in cultural sophistication. You call yourself cockroaches and you also behave like them. There is no paradox or juxtaposition, you simply subject the world to your filth, garbage and ugliness. I’m marked by these reels. I need some healing, digital detox. I call them Generation Gutter. Some of them have nothing to offer the system. They are not good for studies. They are so ugly and corrupt that they can’t even be housewives.”
