Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has changed again Graduate Examination in Engineering (GATE) 2027 information booklet, introducing changes in the Biotechnology (BT) syllabus and expanding the list of admissions to include two papers for selected subjects. The revised booklet has been uploaded on the GATE 2027 official website.The board has clarified that the latest changes are limited to the syllabus and paper combinations. No changes in the exam schedule, eligibility criteria, or any other guidelines related to admission have been notified previously.
Lots of paper combinations for those looking for variety
One of the major changes announced by IIT Madras is related to combining two papers that candidates can choose from when applying for GATE 2027.Students who have opted for the Robotics and Automation (RA) paper will now have more options for their second paper. In addition to Computer Science and Information Technology (CS), Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA), Electrical Engineering (EE), and Mechanical Engineering (ME), candidates can now combine RA with Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC) and Instrumentation Engineering (IN).In some branches the ingredient list has been added. Candidates appearing for Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC) can now choose Robotics and Automation (RA) as their second paper along with the existing options for CS, DA, EE, IN, and PH. Similarly, Instrumentation Engineering (IN) candidates can now sync their paper with RA in addition to Biomedical Engineering (BM), EC, EE, and ME.These changes are expected to provide greater flexibility to those interested in the technical fields of various brands.
Syllabus of Biotechnology has been changed
Several other changes have also been made in the syllabus of biotechnology at IIT Madras as per the recent developments.There has been a merger of the two previous sections into one, which is Fundamentals of Biological Engineering. Sections related to physical and energy calculations, thermodynamics, and transport phenomena have been combined to create a well-organized syllabus.The topic “Engineering Mathematics” now includes topics such as Bayesian statistics and vector statistics. There has been a strong emphasis on metabolism, immunology, and microbiology in the General Biology section.Other topics included in the updated biosciences syllabus are new topics from recombinant DNA technology, such as design-based cloning, biosensors, and omics.
Sample exam it remains the same
Although there have been some changes in the syllabus, IIT Madras has made it clear that the format of the exam has not changed at all.There will be 30 test papers in GATE 2027 in English, each carrying 100 marks. There is no change in the exam date.
