John Leguizamo made waves online for her appearance in Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’. While promoting the film, the actor, best known for voicing Sid the Sloth in the Ice Age franchise, revealed how voicing the beloved animated character for the past two decades has been both creatively and financially rewarding.Ahead of the release of ‘Ice Age: Boiling Point’ in February 2027, the actor spoke about the success of the franchise. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight, Leguizamo credited the franchise for turning his fortunes around, saying, “It paid my bills. It got me a second and triple the house. It paid for my kids’ college.”The actor, who first voiced the lovable and forgiving Sid in the original Ice Age, released in 2002. The animated film launched a franchise that has generated an estimated $6 billion in film, television, merchandise and games.Opening up about how the movies paid for two houses, she shared that in 2003, a year after the original film was released, she bought a four-bedroom lakefront house in upstate New York. Two years later, he expanded and dedicated himself to a two-bedroom penthouse in the Venice neighborhood of Los Angeles.However, Leguizamo’s earnings only came from the first Ice Age film. He then went on to renegotiate his salary after the success of the second installment, ‘Ice Age: The Meltdown’ (2006). The improved arrangement paid off in a big way when ‘Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs’ hit theaters in 2009.Looking back at his pay, he said, “He made me a brownstone. He got me a beachfront house in the Hamptons, he got me two pools!”In 2008, the actor bought a four-story townhouse in New York City’s West Village, which he and his wife, Justine Maurer, spent a year renovating. A few years later, around the release of ‘Ice Age: Continental Drift’ in 2012, he also added a beach house in Amagansett.The franchise also helped Leguizamo support his children’s education. Their daughter, Allegra, studied theater at Northwestern University, while their son, Lucas, majored in political science at Vassar College. In 2023, reports indicated that the actor purchased an apartment for Allegra near the family home in New York.Leguizamo also shared how Sid remains one of the funniest characters he’s ever played. He said the character “allowed me to be as funny as I wanted to be. In movies, I’m usually more dramatic, but in this I got to be hilarious. I got to be so silly and create this incredible character and creature.”‘Ice Age: Boiling Point’ will see him reunite with the main cast of the franchise: Ray Romano as Manny the mammoth, Denis Leary as Diego the saber-toothed tiger, Queen Latifah as Ellie and Jennifer Lopez as Shira. The film, scheduled for release in February 2027, is the sixth installment in the franchise.
