Apurva Mukhija says she felt suicidal after the Samay Raina controversy

Content creator Apoorva Makhija opened up about one of the toughest chapters in her life while speaking on Lock Upp Season 2. Looking back on the aftermath of the India’s Got Latent controversy, she revealed that she had struggled with suicidal thoughts and said that her co-creator Sufi Motiwala was the only person who stood by her during this period.During an emotional conversation with Sufi on the reality show, Apoorva shared that their friendship became her main source of strength when she was dealing with the aftermath of the controversy.Overcome with emotion after reuniting with him, Apoorva said, “I missed you so much. Don’t do that again; I start crying. Every time someone asks me about you and says, ‘How did you become friends with him? He’s so bad,’ I tell them… I would have killed myself if, at the time of Latent, there had been a fiasco,” she said.Sufi quickly cut her off, saying, “Don’t say that.”Apoorva went on to explain how important his presence had been in helping her navigate that phase of her life.“I couldn’t have gone through that. You were the only person with me. I wasn’t dating anyone. Personally, in my life, as a friend,” she added.Sufi also reflected on their bond, describing the period they spent together as one of the happiest times of his life. He shared that their friendship had given him a sense of belonging in Mumbai.“I’ll tell you the truth bro. That year was the most favorite year of my life when we were friends. I finally felt like I had a social circle in Bombay. I felt like there was someone I could go to whenever I wanted. And I really missed you a lot,” he said. The candid conversation concluded with the two creators apologizing to each other for the misunderstandings that had plagued their friendship.Apoorva said, “I’m so sorry too. I know these little things can hurt so much. And I’m sorry I didn’t create that safe space for you when you needed it most.”For those unfamiliar with the incident, Apoorva Makhija was embroiled in the controversy surrounding India’s Got Latent, the YouTube comedy show hosted by influencer Samay Raina, last year.
