Matt Damon physically transformed to play Odysseus Christopher Nolan‘The Odyssey’, but despite this, also had the help of acrobatics in some key scenes.In a new interview, Damon revealed that one of his stunt doubles was a woman like the Greek hero as the character took on Lestrygonian giants. “When we did the strength perspective stuff with the Laestrygonians, there were these stunt doubles that were seven feet, and then they got stunts that were under five feet,” Damon said on the Happy Sad Confused podcast.“My stunt double was a woman, a stuntwoman who had the biggest arms I’ve ever seen. When she walked into the catering tent, that was the first time I met her. I went up to her and hugged her and thanked her for all the work she did,” added Damon.Speaking about the creation of the fight scene, Damon revealed that director Nolan and his team created the towering Laestrygonians using practical filmmaking techniques rather than relying entirely on CGI. According to Damon, the production employed “forced perspective” to enhance the height difference. According to the report, the stunt performers portraying the Laestrygonian giants were about 7 feet tall, while the stunt doubles portraying Odysseus’ army were approximately 5 feet tall.Fans soon took to social media to share their amazement at the scene-making and more. One said: “Christopher Nolan eschewed CGI and used 7-foot stunt doubles to portray the Laestrygonians in The Odyssey.
