Veteran actor Javed Jaaferi he believes that immense stardom can sometimes become a limitation for actors rather than an advantage. Referring to Amitabh BachchanAs an example, Jaaved’s career said commercial pressures often prevent even the biggest stars from exploring unconventional roles. He also reflected on the younger generation of actors, the issue of typography and why he still feels he has so much more to offer as a performer despite spending more than four decades in the industry.The 63-year-old looked back on his long journey in films and talked about how both Bollywood and its audience have changed over the years.Sharing his thoughts on the current crop of actors, Jaaved said that every generation brings its own positives and negatives. While he praised the younger performers for their professionalism and determination, he felt they often lacked patience. “I think the younger ones are in a hurry and they’re not very complacent and all that. The good part is that they’re professional, they’re very serious, they’re very focused on what they want. So yes, there are those disadvantages and advantages,” he said in an interview to HT city. According to him, these differences are natural because the approaches of each generation work differently.Jaaved also spoke about the film industry’s tendency to repeatedly cast actors in roles that have already been successful. While he said he’s been lucky to avoid being boxed into a single image, he acknowledged that commercial success often determines future casting choices.“I can’t say I’ve been stereotyped. I’ve done everything. I’ve played a villain, I’ve played crazy people, serious films, this, that and the other. I’ve done it all. What tends to happen is what works best commercially, people start approaching you with that in mind, that this works for them. This applies even to the biggest stars because the moment you become a commodity, they don’t let you. It’s a sad place to be.“To illustrate his point, Jaaved quoted Amitabh Bachchan, saying that even the legendary actor went through a period when commercial considerations restricted his creative options.“There was a phase when nobody had been bigger than Mr. Bachchan. There was a phase when (veteran actor) Mr. (Amitabh) Bachchan couldn’t do anything different because it wasn’t working. Again, he was limited because the commercial aspects didn’t allow him to move. Now he’s doing the variations that he, as an actor, obviously allowed the commercial aspect to move.”Reflecting on his own career, Jaaved said he has deliberately avoided appearing on screen too often, believing that maintaining variety and separating projects has helped him maintain his longevity.“As an actor, though I’ve done a lot of work. But you have to space yourself out. The moment you get fed up, then it becomes a problem because if you’ve done it all. But by the grace of God, I’ve done well. I’ve played a villain, I’ve played crazy people, I’ve also done serious films. However, I feel like there’s a lot more left for me to explore.”
