For BVS Madhavi, the answer was unexpectedly simple – why pick one when you can learn them all?While studying MBBS at Andhra Medical College, Madhavi also enrolled for a BS degree in Data Science and Programming at IIT Madras. Organizing the medical school, medical work, writing duties, examinations and research was not easy, but he believes that the future of medicine will belong to those who can combine medicine and technology.Today, that belief has changed his work. At the beginning of her professional journey, Madhavi worked as a Junior Clinical Scientist at nference, where she used artificial intelligence to generate real-world evidence in oncology, helping researchers better understand cancer and improve patient care.

A doctor who wants to understand AI

For many medical students, completing MBBS itself is a challenge.Madhavi decided to add another degree to the mix.Enrolled in the IIT Madras BS program in Data Science and Programming in 2021, he believes that artificial intelligence and data science can revolutionize healthcare in the coming years.Rather than seeing technology as separate from medicine, he saw it as an important tool for making accurate diagnoses, streamlining research and providing better outcomes for patients.That choice meant interviews, clinical notes, ward assignments, practical tests and IIT assignments – all at once.The schedule was grueling, but he remained committed to both studies.

Studying in hospitals and laboratories

Madhavi’s journey continued in the classroom.During his medical training at Andhra Medical College, he trained in major departments, including General Medicine, Surgery, Paediatrics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Orthopaedics, Psychiatry, Dermatology and Emergency Medicine.Along with patient care, he continued to develop machine learning technology and clinical research.As a Machine Learning Engineer Intern at Starline AI, he developed an AI-based pneumonia diagnosis system using chest X-rays and deep learning models. The task was achieved with an average of 90% accuracy and was accepted for the initial opinion of all women.Earlier, as a research assistant at Andhra Medical College, he researched the application of artificial intelligence in healthcare by developing a machine learning algorithm for lip recognition.His research interests reached beyond Earth.At the International Astronautical Congress (IAC) 2025 in Sydney, Madhavi presented research on the concepts of microgravity and the possibility of 3D bioprinting for space medicine, which contributes to future medical discussions on long-duration missions.
