‘Krishnavataram’ actress Jayana in Sanskritgranddaughter of Anandiben Patel, Governor of Uttar Pradesh and former Chief Minister of Gujarat recently welcomed viewers to her stunning heritage home in Gujarat. More than a luxury residence, the property is a tribute to India’s diverse craft traditions, with almost every element handcrafted by skilled artisans.From intricately designed wall prints and handmade cushions to linens, table runners and decorative pieces, every corner of the home showcases exceptional craftsmanship. Sanskruti revealed that several artworks displayed throughout the residence took months and in some cases even years to complete.
A traditional haveli built around family and craftsmanship
The house follows the design of a classic Gujarati haveli, centered around a courtyard that keeps the family connected between floors. In a tour of the house with Mashable India, Sanskruti explained that her parents wanted the design to reflect this openness, with corridors connecting the levels so that “even someone upstairs can be a part of the conversations going on below.”Says the actress, “My parents’ vision was to build the house like a traditional Gujarati haveli. Every Gujarati house has a central courtyard where the family gathers. The floors are connected to each other through open corridors, so even someone upstairs can be a part of the conversations going on below.”This spirit of connection also extends to the home decor, most of which is handmade, a direct result of her mother’s decades-long relationship with artisans around the country. “My mother has been working with artisans in the craft field for 25 years. I grew up around them. Every single thing in this house is handmade,” shared Sanskruti.
The wall of wisdom, inspirational quotes and design inspired by Kachchi
A prominent feature is a wall dedicated to the leaders who shaped India, which the family calls “the wall of wisdom.” Elsewhere, inspirational quotes are woven into the walls, corridors and exterior paths throughout the property, with the aim of motivating anyone who passes by. The walls of the house also carry design elements inspired by Kachchi border embroidery, giving the space a distinctly Gujarati visual identity, along with scriptures, miniature artwork and vintage wedding utensils repurposed as decorative pieces.
Sustainable by design and a nod to his grandfather “Mr Toilet”.
Sustainability runs through the home’s DNA. Sanskruti described the property as built for “conscious living,” pointing to rainwater harvesting, solar power and other eco-friendly practices woven into daily life. This ethos also shows up in unexpected places, even the toilets have individual color themes, motivational quotes and mini libraries, a detail Sanskruti links to her grandfather, who she said was “popularly known as ‘Mr Toilet'” after winning a Padma Shri for his work in sanitation.“Our house is made for conscious living. It’s totally eco-friendly. We harvest rainwater, use solar panels for electricity and follow practices that help us coexist with nature,” said Sanskruti.
Open kitchens, a pizza oven and the ‘gratitude walk’
The home’s open kitchen flows into a dining area and outdoor seating space, ideal for the monsoon months, while a separate outdoor kitchen area hosts family gatherings, cookouts and campfires that include, as Sanskruti said, family pizza nights thanks to a dedicated pizza oven on the property.Perhaps the most distinctive space is the “Passeig de la Gratitud”, a path filled with inscriptions expressing thanks to nature, the five elements and life itself, designed to encourage reflection. The property also includes spaces dedicated to meditation and yoga, rounding out its focus on full living.
