Ilaiyaraaja took to his X (earlier on Instagram) to share a post stating that his death was a personal loss and that Indian music had lost one of its greatest voices. Ilaiyaraaja spoke about the difficult times that S. Janaki faced in her personal life. He said, “I was deeply saddened to hear about the death of beloved singer Janaki Amma. It is shocking and heartbreaking news.” He added: “He brought excruciating pain into his personal life and went through many painful experiences. It is deeply distressing to think of the hardships he endured while bringing immense joy to millions through his music.”
Ilaiyaraaja recalls how he always strived for perfection
Looking back on the many songs they worked on together, Ilaiyaraaja said Janaki never accepted anything less than perfection. He explained that whenever he wanted a particular emotion or expression in a song, he kept practicing until he got it exactly right. He said, “I always worked hard to achieve the musical expression I wanted in each composition. Janaki Amma matched this commitment with equal determination and would continue to refine the song until it reached perfection. In many ways, I can say it exceeded even my expectations.”Ilaiyaraaja said that there could never be another singer like S. Janaki for her unique voice, emotion and dedication to music. He concluded the message by praying for his soul to rest in peace and said his music and legacy will continue to inspire singers and music lovers for many years to come.
